CNC Machining

Unlike 3D printing, CNC machining is a subtractive manufacturing process that involves cutting away material from a solid block to create the desired shape. Since it can produce very precise and rigid components, CNC machining is often used for final products or high-quality prototypes.

DifficultyCost

You use CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software to generate the toolpaths for CNC machines based on your CAD designs.

Recommended CAM software:

  • FreeCAD (open source, includes CAM workbench)
